The main house was built in 1910 with river stones and wood from the surrounding forest and rivers. It is said that both Queen Elizabeth and President Jomo Kenyatta visited Castle Forest Lodge when they were students.
In 2000, Castle Forest Lodge was renovated to accommodate slightly over thirty guests. When looking for a weekend break, Castle Forest Lodge is ideally located at a just 3-hour drive from Nairobi off the Kutus-Kianyaga Road.
The lodge as an eco-tourism facility recognises its responsibility towards maintaining the fragile ecological balance of its unique natural environment by actively seeking new opportunities to reduce consumption of energy, water and other natural resources.
Whilst the entire power consumed at the lodge is generated by solar- and micro-hydro systems, an effort is made to re-use or recycle materials and responsibly dispose of non-recyclable items where possible.
The Forest Lodge offers:
Cottages with fireplace, where a fire is lit for you at night; bungalows with two double rooms, living room with fireplace, a private veranda and shower/toilet; double/single/twin rooms at the main house and unlimited camping space with use of clean hot showers and toilets.
There is a bush hut for guests seeking complete privacy in the serene rain forests on the slopes of Mt Kenya.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served from the restaurant at set hours with a daily changing menu. Snacks are available throughout the day. Enjoy your drinks from a well stocked bar.
