A luxury retreat, Rhino River Camp is located in the eastern foothills of the Kenyan highlands within 80 acres of privately owned wilderness on the edge of the Meru National Park.
The real Born Free country, famous haunt of Joy and George Adamson and home of Elsa the lioness, Meru contains a diverse range of habitats and is traversed by thirteen perennial rivers flowing from the Nyambeni Range.
A collection of just eight luxury cottages made out of canvas and local hardwood are set amongst the trees of the pristine forest bordering the Kindani River. Spacious and comfortable, the rooms have a view over the river and its huge raffia palms, yellow fever trees, and tamarinds.
Moreover, each room has its own private ‘zen’ area where you can meditate, re-read your favorite novel, or simply unwind. The very design of it, contemporary with a hint of Africa, is pleasant without being intrusive. Add to that a swimming pool to dream of, a well-stocked bar and restaurant area, numerous nature trails for you to explore our private property on foot or bike, and this will make your perfect hideout.
The camp meets most of its energy needs through solar and hydro-electric power, using the abundant sunshine and flowing rivers of the area to full advantage.
The adjacent dining area is open from early to late. With no set meal times, and exclusive service, indulge your appetite and senses. You may decide to eat in the main area or beside the swimming pool, in the privacy of the terrace of your room, or with other guests whom you like, or even in the bush! The choice is yours – every meal time. Let the camp's chefs surprise you with a selection of gourmet delicacies with an Italian accent.
