The lodge was built and developed from scratch on what was originally a maize field on a steep hill overlooking the clear blue waters of Lake Malawi. Over the years it has become more than just a tourist business. Njaya is a labour of love and we like to think a 'work in progress' as well as an established part of the community.
As well as a beautiful and welcoming place for people to have a wonderful holiday or a stopover en-route through Malawi, the lodge has become a catalyst for local and international charity initiatives. Quite simply a place that actively sets out to help the local population, and a place to do tourism differently.
For over two decades the staff are still the same people who helped build Njaya, and and in some cases their now grown up children are now employed! There are no walls, high fences or gates, and Njaya is very much its own community. It's the staff that we really take our hats off too though.
A brilliant team of hard working cooks, waiters, managers, barmen and gardeners who are all part of the 'Njaya family' and who will do everything they can to make sure you have an unforgettable stay. All our dishes are freshly prepared and made from local organic ingredients according to the season.
The bar has a wonderfully relaxed feel and comfortable rustic chairs and sofas out on the verandah overlooking the Lake. Serving ice cold beers, soft drinks, spirits, cocktails, milkshakes and local coffee and teas.
