Marking the border with Mozambique to the east the Bvumba (or Vumba) mountains offer some of the most spectacular scenery in Zimbabwe. The unique geography and climate of the area keeps Bvumba relatively cool throughout the year and creates the misty atmosphere from which the mountains take their name. This makes the area one of the best for hiking, walking anywhere in Zimbabwe and visitors will be rewarded with fabulous views. The Bvumba mountains are also home to a huge variety of plans and wildlife.
Protected forests and botanical garden provide a wonderful atmosphere for a walk, picnic or safari on foot or horseback. A large number of giraffes, monkeys, zebra and antelope species are present. Also birdwatchers will be impressed by the hundereds of bird species present. Many people come to the area for the world class golf course at Leopard Rock, which remains one of Africa’s best golfing venues.
When city life get too much or you just want somewhere to relax and enjoy nature for a few days, Bvumba is the place to be. Close enough to Harare for a weekend break but different enough to feel like another world.
