Festivals not to be missed in Stone Town
The Sauti za Busara music festival, held yearly in February is centred in historic Stone Town with more than four hundred musicians, from all over Africa and the world, playing over the five days of the festival. Every year during February the ancient walls of the Old Fort resonate as people come together in celebration. Fringe events are held across the island to compliment the main festival.
ZIFF is East Africa’s largest film, music and arts festival. The festival showcases some of the most captivating and cutting edge cinema from Africa and beyond and magical venues across the island.
The first Jahazi Literary and Jazz Festival was held in Stone Town in September 2011. The festival includes a children’s program and a film program, with participants at the inaugural festival including Moussa Diallo, the ex President of Zanzibar H.E. Karume and writer Tim Severin.
