Cottages are part of an eco lodge situated in the Heart of Murchison Falls National Park (southern sector), 15 minutes from the Top of the Falls. The surrounding leopard country is a mixture of savannah plain and riverine forest that supports a variety of wildlife, untouched by mass tourism. The Park offers stupendous views of the dramatic waterfalls of the Nile River which plunge 45 meters through a narrow 6 meter canyon of boulders.
Guests go to the main lodge building for meals, bar, lounge, pool, gift shop, front desk services and camp fire site overlooking the river valley filled with birdlife, cape buffalo wallow etc.
The Lodge was designed using the concept of African architecture and built using natural materials from the area. The main lodge building is open air, while the 18 thatched cottages (some are family cottages with 2 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms) have verandahs, screened windows, ceiling fans, mosquito nets over the beds, and self-contained bathrooms with showers, toilets and sinks.
The Lodge runs on generator power for approximately 7 hours a day. There are solar water heaters, so hot water is dependent on the sun (which is usually abundant)! We have security personnel to accompany guests after sunset and before sunrise from the cottages to the main lodge building.
Guests should allow enough time with us to experience the uniqueness of Murchison Falls National Park. Travel across the Nile by ferry for a game drive through the rare Borassus palm forest, visit the dramatic Nyamisika Plateau, cruise the Nile to the renowned Falls or Delta and view the abundance of hippo, crocodile, Cape buffalo, elephant and rare species of birds, including the shoebill stork. Track chimpanzees on foot in the Pabidi Forest or arrange a fishing expedition or walking safari.
Sambiya River Lodge looks forward to welcoming you for a magical African adventure!
