Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages is located in Karen, a beautiful, peaceful suburb approximately 20 miles from downtown Nairobi. This is in the midst of one of the oldest formal gardens in Kenya which has a huge jacaranda, candelabra, cactus, bottle brush and other trees.
Nearby Karen Blixen museum is one of the major tourist attractions in Kenya. The coffee garden is built on more than five acres of land with large old trees and a beautiful garden with different varieties of blooming flowers and a large population of birds. The place offers cool and quiet environment for the visitors.
There are twelve ensuite cottages set in extensive gardens, some of the oldest formal gardens in Nairobi. Eight cottages offer one bedroom, three offer two bedrooms (with private dressing rooms) and a central lounge area, while the ‘Honeymoon Cottage' has a bedroom with sitting room and fireplace. All have private verandas, beamed ceilings, fireplaces, mini-bars, satellite TV and internet connections. 24-hour room service is available.
The cottages have been designed after the historic Swedo House to give a sense of reliving history in elegant style. The cottages have hi-beam ceilings with fireplaces, wood and mazeras stone floors.
The restaurant is open for breakfast from 0700hrs daily and the kitchen remains operational until 2200hrs. The restaurant veranda is also a popular place to spend a relaxing lunch and afternoon. The large dining room of the romantic L'Amour Restaurant also has large framed windows overlooking the verandah and gardens. It has large suede chairs for comfortable seating and its two large fireplaces provide a warm and cozy atmosphere for raining or chilly days. For many, the bar and bar verandah are a fun place to have lunch or dinner while playing darts, board games, or watching news or sporting events.
