Overlooking the the Indian Ocean, this small hotel is located in Stone Town, the cultural centre of Zanzibar and provides a unique picture of past times. Over the years, the building was neglected and fell into disrepair. The building remained in this decrepit and semi abandoned state until it was rescued by an Omani investor with a dream.
The hotel houses the original English Club library with its rare collection of many first editions and historical books. The wood-panelled library is located on the ground floor of the building. Although the library is not open to the public, guests can obtain the key at the reception and enjoy a good read in the quiet room.
There are 15 rooms divided into 3 categories: 1 Royal Deluxe Room, 6 Twin or Double Deluxe Seaview Rooms and 8 Twin or Double Deluxe Stone Town View Rooms. Each room is equipped with all modern conveniences.
Combining a local and international cuisine with a unique ambiance and elegant décor, ''Tradewinds Restaurant'' makes a perfect venue for a memorable dining experience.
The restaurant is located on the second floor just above the Sunset Bar, ideal to let the evening end after a sundowner at the bar. Guests can either enjoy their meals on the terrace with views onto the Indian Ocean or inside the airy restaurant. Large ceiling fans and many windows ensure an ongoing breeze. A local artist was commissioned to paint a mural of an ancient map on the ceiling.
The Sunset Bar has a lively balcony bar on a large open-air terrace with a wonderful view of the Indian Ocean. The bar, which is situated on the first floor, is a popular meeting place throughout the day and especially in the late afternoon. The colourful panorama as the sun sets over the ocean with fishermen gliding by in their sail-set dhows is a daily highlight.
Beside a choice of various soft drinks, wine and beer, the bar is well known for its wide variety of cocktails, such as Coconut Martini, Funky Monkey or Mojito.
