This a family built, and family run hotel situated in Pongwe on the east coast of Zanzibar s Unguja Island. It is just under one hour’s drive from the airport and from Stonetown – on a tarmac road. The beach is accessible, apart from at high tide, with three access points down to the beach.
The hotel has two types of rooms both boasting breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, and in all you can take a shower or have a bath while enjoying the view! There are have 7 individual cottages and 3 second floor rooms in the main block. The bathrooms have hot water provided by a solar water heating system; each room has a claw foot cast iron bathtub, and the cottages have ‘his and her’ wash hand basins.
The rooms are designed to harness the Indian ocean trade winds, so as we can keep you cool without using energy sapping air conditioning units.
Cottages have their own walled tropical gardens, accessed through an antique Zanzibar door set within a white coral stone wall. At the front are large balconies with comfy coconut wood furniture and steps down to your own beach area.
The restaurant has a range of seafood caught locally from the ocean, which is only 10 metres away from your table. The dining room is stylishly decorated against a backdrop of a magnificent Zanzibar door set in a bedding of white coral stone.
The bar in the main block - the ‘Bar es Salaam’ offers a range of drinks, from single malt Scottish whisky, to wild and wonderful tropical cocktails. The bar at the beach side of the site, the - ‘Temple bar’ - offers the same range of drinks as the main bar, but in a beach style setting.
There are many things to do apart from relaxing on the beach or your veranda with a good book, various options are offered to keep you entertained. The hotel has mountain bikes that are available for exploring local villages and roads off the beaten track. Kayaks are also available to explore the coastline and marine life.
