Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar and spent his early years in what is now called "Mercury House".
Freddie's family had moved to Zanzibar so that his father could continue his job as a cashier at the British Colonial Office. At the age of 17, Mercury and his family fled from Zanzibar for safety reasons due to the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution.
We are excited to now be offering the apartment for guests wanting to walk in Mercury's footsteps.
As a rising new star in the British, and the world music scene, Freddie Mercury and his family used to retreat to what is now ”Marashi” apartment whenever they came back to Zanzibar on holidays.
The apartment is located in a central part of Stone Town near all of the tourist attractions, the Old Fort and footsteps from the waterfront.
Guests have access to a nearby boutique hotel across the street where they can use the beach and swimming pool.
